leave taking
We have spent three lovely and challenging years on this amazing piece of property and our lease is coming to a close at the end of the 2009 season. When we first began our lease and the farm, we did not have answers to many of our questions. Would we end up staying here longer? Or permanently? Would the farm business be viable? What would the soil be like? We now have many clear answers to these questions, but again find ourselves on the edge of new beginnings, with new questions to lead us forward.
We have decided to move from this land for a variety of reasons. First and foremost is that the owners wish to sell the property and we do not want to purchase it. Additionally, both of the farmers have been provided with opportunities to experience new challenges and to broaden their knowledge in other fields.
So, it goes without saying this is the last season of the CSA. We are experiencing the full spectrum of emotions that come with any major change, though somehow they seem to be magnified when they are associated with the act of farming, of devoting your mind, body and soul to a piece of ground and those who benefit from this devotion. We have been very much dependent upon and grateful for the support that our members have given to us over these few years. We encourage you to lend your support to a new farmer and continue to eat organic and local. Please see out links page for some suggestions about how to find local foods and area farmers.
